How did you come to Kelleher Associates for your recent transition?
My former employer provided me with outplacement services at another firm which proved disappointing.  At an ExecuNet meeting I met Mitch Wienick and, after talking with him in depth about how Kelleher worked with its clients, subsequently decided to make the switch to Kelleher.

We understand your background involves a specialized niche.  How did this impact your strategy?
Despite the limited number of opportunities I felt I would be more successful in this current employment environment by searching for a similar position to the one I had at Wyeth.

You ultimately had more than one offer.  What process did you utilize to determine the most appropriate position?
This was difficult in that I was initially tempted to accept a position for which I was overqualified.  I quickly realized it was not the right fit and determined to stay focused on positions that suited my professional experience and salary expectations. So, by being a bit more patient, which the Kelleher team helped me with, I was ultimately able to secure a much better position.

Was networking a challenge for you?
Continuous employment at the same company for 18 years meant “networking” was off my radar.  My counselor, Marci Wilf, was quick to underscore the importance of this skill.  Working with her aided me in building and refining my abilities, while the ExecuNet and client meetings gave me the opportunity to really become proficient.

What other Kelleher services/concepts proved to be especially valuable during your search?
The assessment tools, while reinforcing what I consider my positive attributes, more importantly, pointed me toward understanding my weaknesses.  Marci was of enormous assistance in sharpening my interview skills and helping me learn to be more concise and persuasive when answering questions.

Clearly, Marci had taken the time to understand me and this boosted my confidence and comfort level.  Additionally, the other Kelleher consultants were extremely generous in the time they gave to my situation and in providing me with important networking contacts.  This is a service I did not find at competing firms.

What did you find most daunting about your job search?
Talking to people I did not know. But I learned to get comfortable enough to do it consistently and with confidence.

What advice would you give to others looking for their next position?
Know what you want and be clear both verbally and in writing about what you are looking for.

Would you recommend Kelleher Associates to others?
I certainly would. The individualized attention, strong emphasis on networking and sharing of their own contacts, and top notch preparation for key meetings and interviews really distinguish this organization from others who don’t come close in terms of ongoing, quality support.
